Behind the Blue Door

Welcome to Behind the Blue Door. Here we will keep you up-to-date on the comings and goings of the members here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County. Thank you for coming, and enjoy exploring!

The Club Times

When many think of April, they think of the fading of winter, the long-awaited spring break vacations, the many fishing openers, and the beginning of baseball season. For the hundreds of Boys & Girls Club organizations across the country, there is one particular holiday that stands out - BGC Week. This year, National Boys & Girls Club Week is April 8th - 12th, and is bursting at the seams with fun programs and activities inspired by the invaluable service these club sites provide for the youth of America.

With Barron County boasting five separate Boys & Girls Clubs for grades kindergarten through twelve, the festivities range from club tours, member-inspired programs, themed daily activities, and free membership for the remainder of the school year. In the past years, clubs in Rice Lake, Cumberland, and Barron have participated in fun coding hours, member-led club tours, blue door decorating, and even an outdoor musical party complete with a bounce house. All events are free as clubs open their doors to the community to show their BGC pride.

According to the national website, BGCA.org, this week “shines a spotlight on the 61,000 caring, trained youth development professionals who mentor kids and teens every day in 4,300 Clubs across the nation and on U.S. military installations worldwide”. Having been a celebrated week of the year for over 75 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County are proud to be such a big part of the community.

In addition to the BGC Week festivities, the clubs are also celebrating their new Executive Director, Chad Thompson. Having been a lifelong resident of Barron County, and a twenty five year veteran of the Rice Lake Police Department, Chad is dedicated to the positive futures of the youth and families that can benefit from what the clubs have to offer.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County will be updating their Facebook page with the details on various events during BGC Week as it nears. Events already planned will include on-site job and volunteer interviews, music, photo booth, and skits. If you’ve ever wondered what happens behind the clubs’ blue doors and “Great Futures Start Here” signs, this is one of the best opportunities to see them in action.

Be sure to check each site page to see what specific activities they have been doing.
