Gabby Eyrich, a senior at Rice Lake High School, has been selected by Governor Walker to represent Wisconsin at the “Ronald Reagan-Close Up Youth Conference” June 19-24th in Washington D.C.
Gabby recently attended the” Youth of the Year” state competition as a representative of Boys and Girls Clubs of Barron County. During the competition, she was asked by judges to give her speech at the Legislative Luncheon, where the Governor’s wife was in attendance. The sincerity of Gabby’s message, “Making a Difference One Child at a Time”, seemed to resonate with Mrs. Walker, who most certainly shared Gabby’s story with the Governor. Early this month, the Governor was asked to submit the name of one male and one female to the represent the state of Wisconsin at the DC Conference. The individuals were to be selected based on their ability to exhibit outstanding leadership both in the school and in the community. The Governor chose Gabby to be his female representative from Wisconsin. In addition, Gabby will have all of her expenses paid through the generous support of the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, which was established in 1965 with the purpose of giving back to the community. The Marriott Foundation is dedicated to helping youth secure a promising future, especially through education on the secondary and higher education levels, mentoring and youth leadership programs. While in Washington DC, Gabby will have the opportunity to discuss and debate current policy issues with peers from across the country, interact with key media and policy experts, and meet with Members of Congress while making personal connections with historic places, events and people Washington’s memorials represent. This incredible experience will give Gabby the chance to learn more about the mechanics of our democracy. Ultimately, participants will have the ability to make recommendations on how to improve civil discourse in today’s political environment. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Barron County are so proud of Gabby and her achievements and we know that she will represent Wisconsin well while in D.C. Way to go Gabby! |
